Martina Schwarz

Martina has a busy schedule as a singing accordionist, solo and in various musical formations. She is a music creator in the fields of dance, theatre, puppetry, and film. She performs on big and small stages, including community and health settings.

Martina is an award-winning composer. Her music can often be heard in the productions she is involved in as a musician/performer. She has long standing collaborations with Greencandle Dance Company, Wonderful Beast Theatre Company and One Moment in Time Theatre Company. She has led community choirs for many years and teaches the piano-accordion. www.martinaschwarz.net

Martina also writes children’s songs and has had many of them published. One of her songs about climate protection was recently short-listed for “best children’s song” in Germany.   • Founder MD of Cecil Sharp House Choir (2010 – 2019) – created numerous arrangements of songs from the folk archives. Efdss.org
  • 2016 – Published Lovers, Legends and Laments, 21 A capella arrangements of folk songs from the British Isles which sells widely.
  • Enjoys free improvisation sessions (vocals) with the composer and pianist Deborah Broderick Edwards. Occasional performances.
  • Has composed many scores for dance and theatre which have been performed on numerous national tours including at Sadlers Wells, Purcell Room, Union Chapel etc.
  • 1995 Masters degree in Composition and Ethnomusicology; Kingston University/SOAS. Distinction.
